- Will putting a TV in your bedroom make you fat and stupid? The New York Times reports on several disturbing statistics connecting televisions in the bedroom to health and developmental problems like obesity, insomnia, and more. The article focuses on the effects of the bedroom TV on kids (who see lower test scores and are at a higher risk of smoking), but we’ve also seen how electronic media can hinder a good night’s sleep for adults, as well. - Is a 4 Hour workweek really possible? I realized that the main epiphany for me when reading the book was Timothy Ferriss’ insistence that we should abandon the deferred life plan where we work like hell in the prime of our lives, save as much as we can and then retire - a plan that is ultimately just a “socially reinforced illusion”. - Are you willing to sell your soul for 50GB of free online storage? ADrive, a new entrant in the market (currently in beta) giving out a whopping 50GB of online storage for free. You can upload files, arrange them in folders, download them, and create public links so you can share them with others. - Brother Shane reviews the new MacBook Pro…Last spring, as my PowerBook began to show its age due in the graphics work I was using it for, I decided to buy a tower instead of a new laptop. The idea behind buying the Mac Pro was that (1) it would last for years: I had already been using my PowerBook for more than two years, who’s specs were far below the Mac Pro’s and it was still chugging along well. And then, (2) the ease and affordability to expand the Mac Pro’s specs would make it all the easier to make sure it lasted even longer. (via shane blanc)
- Darth Calacanis shares some money saving tips for startups…Buy cheap tables and expensive chairs. Tables are a complete rip off. We buy stainless steel restaurant tables that are $100 and $600 Areon chairs. Total cost per workstation? $700. Compare that to buying a $500-$1,500 cube/designer workstation. The chair is the only thing that matters… invest in it. (via calacanis.com)
- Free Outlook GTD Plugin…Jello GTD is a brand new open source plugin which helps you implement this system in Outlook. (via friedbeefs tech)
