- How many time management guru’s does it take to get anything done? Watts Humphrey, who retired from IBM in 1980, once led Big Blue’s software development. His group “who had never before made a delivery schedule, did not miss a date for the next two and a half years.” Here is a persuasive list of bullet points from one of his presentations (courtesy of Scott Rosenberg, founder of Salon):
-Unless you are independently wealthy, you must work to a schedule
-If you don’t make your own schedule, someone else will.
-Then that person will control your work. (via 4 hour work week)
- His Daveness is interviewed on the Precision Change podcast…We ask David some questions that many people have about the GTD methodology, including covering common problems people have with implementing it. If you are familiar with the basics of GTD, you may find this interview especially helpful in answering some of your burning questions. (via precision change)
- Tips on how to clean up that filthy home office of yours…This week, I undertook a major reorganization of my office. It was precipitated by the fact that a TV crew was coming to film in my home office. I didn’t want my “stacks” memorialized on film, so I got to work. In the process, I did some major decluttering. While I’m not completely finished with this project, my work environment feels much more productive and it inspires me to take on some other projects around my home. (via daily saint)
- Fun with a whiteboard ya’ll…If you prefer to do your task management the analog way, you might find the whiteboard to be a very effective task list - assuming it’s visible from your work station. Having a private task list makes it easier for you to switch your schedule around and procrastinate, but if your task list is on a whiteboard and out in the open for everyone to see, it might be more embarrassing for you to leave some things undone. - The Lord has heard your cry and has finally added CSS support to Google Docs…Google Docs has implemented a much awaited feature, the full use of CSS in documents. This essentially means that those of you versed in CSS can create great looking documents instead of black, white and grey ones. (via hack your day)
- More tips on how to perfect your workspace…The workspace should function like a cockpit – all the controls easily accessible as required, allowing for maximum focus on the work at hand, quick over-viewing of work to be done, and easy ad hoc processing of all forms of input (from email, paper mail, phone, and live conversation).
