I heard about this while listening to Twit. Think 100% time suck…the new yummy wholesome goodness that is Foursquare.

Think 50% friend-finder, 30% social cityguide, 20% nightlife game. Wanted to build something that not only helps you keep up with your friends, but exposes you to new things in and challenges you to explore cities in different ways.

Foursquare is essentially a re-envisioning of Dodgeball, Twitter’s precursor and a cult phenomenon until GoogleGoogle reviews left it for dead, and actually hails from one of the guys that worked to build that app. Foursquare, which offers an iPhone app or mobile browser experience, works by letting you tell the app where you are and then lets your friends know where to find you. All you need to do is check-in via SMS (text to 50500) or mobile app.

• Gmail adds tasks to iPhone app…Google has just announced a new way to manage your Gmail Tasks from your mobile device or your iGoogle homepage.
• To lazy to write my own review of the wholesome yummy goodness that is Dropbox so here is a link to one…Dropbox could be considered an extension of the operating system, just as Apple has tried to make the iDisk feature of the MobileMe/.Mac service. It’s fits in so well you barely notice it’s there. To me, that’s a utility.
• Yet another web app claiming that it can make our time management fetish easier…Just when I needed her most, along came Doris, a free, web-based task management app developed by Seagull Systems originally for their internal use.
• Talk about an oxymoron, a Twitter client for business…Twalala allows you to filter your twitstream by keyword or phrase, and you can temporarily silence twitterers who might be getting on your nerves and/or spamming.
• More social networking time suckage…Trigga.Me enables group based updates for twitter, facebook, friendfeed, xing, pounce, identica, plurk, plaxo, frazr, rejaw, brightkite, linkedin and some others.
• All GTD black belts have an effective weekly review, right?…Bottom line, if you don’t have a systematic and thorough approach to reviewing your work, you’ll never break free from the busy trap of thinking you need to be thinking and worrying about your work all of the time.

My sense, though, is that for most people who repeatedly do (and sell) creative work, this all seems a bit like wanting to feel like a world-class athlete. Because “feeling creative” produces great work in approximately the same way that “feeling like a doctor” makes you a gifted thoracic surgeon.

A web app that helps people (students, actors, or anyone else) memorize things (schoolwork, lines in a play, etc.) using flashcards. Users create a blank "set" of flashcards, then name the set, and start adding cards to the set. Once you’re ready, the app presents these cards to you in a random order so you can answer the cards.

The latest application from Cultured Code is Things, a task organizer and to-do list manager for Mac and iPhone. It centers around the ideas encompassed in Getting Things Done (GTD) and makes it easy to break down and organize tasks.

• The ultimate geek overnight bag? the ZÜCA bag is my new best friend for when I need to travel for a week or less. These are the reasons why I think the ZÜCA bag is great: The insert bags. I don’t always use each and every one of the insert bags, but I use most of them. • Nice and loong post on working from home…I work out of my basement. My kids all understand that “Daddy is busy working” and they only interrupt me for emergencies. Other adults and visiting family members are a different story. They come into my office and start talking to me when I’m clearly wearing my headset—no matter how many fingers I hold up (or which ones). (via list apart)

• iPhone and productivity? interesting…I record all my receipts and photo notes straight to Evernote. I have every invoice and purchase order in PDF from my business as well as all the other files that I want to share between multiple locations stored in EverNote. The Web application, Mac Application, and iPhone application make this a killer note taking and storing app for me. (via did i get things done)

• The mighty productivity power blogger numbered list! Slamming half a carafe of coffee to get alert and productive is kind of like pounding a six-pack to get social and funny—you’re going to miss your mark, in often painful ways. Research suggests that small, frequent doses of caffeine—like tea breaks, caffeinated mints, and even chocolate—do a better job of keeping your brain from feeling fatigued than jitter-inducing java. • Is a mountain of filth standing between you and all of your lofty goals? For example, when the surfaces of my workspace are clutter free–yet I still have the tools at hand that I need–I power through things faster, have increased focus, and I feel better at the end of the day. • Productivity on a iPhone? What…Another iPhone application I use frequently is Jott. I’ve been a Jott user for awhile and they finally exited their beta period and have a number of tiered pricing options to choose from. And a well-featured free account, which works well with the iPhone app. I use Jott to quickly call in notes to myself (I loved when these would go to Backpack, but that seems to be not working anymore) and now the iPhone app makes it easy to do this and sync to all of the services I have associated with the account. It definitely helps me remember things when I’m traveling or just need a quick reminder. (via setting context)
• Yet another helpful web based collaboration app…A web-based collaboration / project management service. There’s a free version as well as multiple language versions. Scribd’s iPaper is integrated so you can view files in the browser. The company has been around since 1999 and offers phone customer service. (via ehub)
• Tim please tell us how to never forget anything ever again…This might sound a bit complicated to some, but I assure you all of these tools are simple, easy to use, powerful, fast, and fun to use. Those are my criteria. I use a setup the includes Evernote, Gmail, Gcal, Anxiety and Jott. These tools allow me to capture any information, at any time, and retrieve the information quickly and easily. (via four hour work week)
