The non profit organization that I serve at is in the process of moving from one level of productivity to another. The organization is in the process of moving to a new location the will frankly give it much needed room to grow, so in the midst of all this change it is vital that leadership team share with the troops what are our collective and team goals. Goals are blueprints of your future desires and dreams, because without a blueprint how do you know when you have the finished product? Leaders make things up, and they make them happen. They're defining the game — but they're also making sure the game is on. And those two behaviors sit at very distinctly opposite ends of the continuum of how things get done. We must frame a vision, defining what done means. And we must then make that vision operational, deciding what doing actually looks like. It is rare, though, to find a person who can operate comfortably in both roles and who knows how to navigate between them appropriately.
